Notre-Dame de Québec Parish

 

The Parish of Notre-Dame de Québec largely corresponds to the city limits of Old Québec. It is unique in that it was the first Catholic parish canonically established in North America, the cradle of both French civilization and the Catholic faith north of Mexico.

 

Her streets preserve the memory of the footsteps of Samuel de Champlain, of those of the first Récollet and Jesuit missionaries, of Saint François de Laval and Saint Marie de l’Incarnation, of the governors and intendants of New France as well as the educators and caregivers of Hôtel-Dieu Hospital.

 

It is here also that we preserve the memory, not only of terrible epidemics,wars, bombings and difficult times, but also of times of victory.

 

Notre-Dame de Québec played a determining role in the development of Québec, Canada and North America. It has been a pillar in the survival of the French language in North America, an active witness to the constant evolution of our nation and to all the cultural mutations which have shaped our society.

 

Wander its streets. Visit its three historical churches, Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral-Basilica, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires in Place Royale and Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde along boulevard Champlain. Spend a moment in quiet contemplation at the tomb of Marie de l’Incarnation or visit the Centre Catherine de Saint-Augustin.
